TV News interview 20-March, 2008

Paper Pop-Ups
Taking Paper to a different level

The Live truck was here 5am to video the interview by famous Doug Emblidge Channel 13 TV News.  It was a super interview with the video/sound photographer Terry Hancock.  He got great close up shots of the pop-ups from different angles and even included some of my mechanical cards.

They also interviewed my Daughter and Granddaughter, age 9, who helped start all this.
A specialist Matt McGarvey, brought parts for my granddaughter's wheelchair a 45 minute drive from his office...and didn't want any money.
    My daughter suggested I do a pop-up wheelchair as a thank you...she knew I liked doing pop-ups.
Matt liked the thank you pop-up made of his business cards.
I entered the pop-up wheelchair in a contest and won.  Featured on Robert Sabuda's web-site as:
Artist of the month November, 2007
So the interview would never have come about if it wasn't for my Daughter and Granddaughter.

During the TV interview they showed the action of my cards opening-- doing the pop-up thing.  My Victorian mechanical card looked really nice as Terry did a close up of the card with curtains closed, then showed the action of the tab being pulled to reveal the inside of the house.

It was an interesting experience as I'd never been interviewed before.

I hope, that when I get nervous in the future...my lip will quit sticking to my teeth.  I don't think I stuttered a lot, so life is good.  Now I understand why some folks don't watch themselves on any kind of video.

When in doubt, smile.  Wishing you -no doubts and lots of smiles.

People that make us smile.

It's so important to have inspirational people in our life.

When there's a blank white page looking us in the face, and it's a grumpy kind of day, I like to think of people that are inspirational.  If the sun plays peek-a-boo and you have trouble getting away from grumpies...check out The Toymaker, sure to brighten your day with inspiration.

Pop-Up Birthday and Wedding Cake Greeting Cards

Lots of happy things have been going on in my Studio...I wrestled with getting my web site going.  It's finally up.  Yippie!  The web host has been great and the hold up was me.  I learned where pictures need to be a certain size so the viewer doesn't have to wait forever for the site to load.  While it was rewarding to learn how to set up my own web site,  I kept trying to distract myself to create new Pop-Ups.

I have to get the press release out.  There's a lot more big news and I know it won't get front page,  I'm thinking probably more mid section of the local papers....wish me luck.

B i g news.  I'm now a member of SCBWI, Society Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. I'm almost done with the 2nd page of my 8 page Pop-Up book.  Have to dedicate some time to get the sample finished so I can get it to the publisher.

Finished the Birthday Cake, 2 layer Pop-Up greeting card.  That incited my brain to kick into Wedding mode and ended up with my design for the 3 layer Wedding Cake Pop-Up Card.
Bday Pop-Up Cake 2 layer     Birthday Cake Pop-Up Card-- 2 Layers

Detail of the cake iceing...embossed and cut out.

The best part of this past week was that my Grandaughter came over last night and got to stay for about 3 hours.  My daughter went to a purse party, so Granddaughter & I watched Sesame Street cd's.  She let me sing the alphabet with her, and she has such a pretty voice...all the while she was smiling.  Smiles that warm the heart & soul.

Share a smile...make a friend!
