......Petrina Case Pop-Up Studio Newsletter...........

Hello & hello,

If I had a writer's pen, I could say it was a dark and dreary day. I have
the window open in the studio and I hear the slow patter of the rain with
a clean breeze coming in. There's one lone bird out there trying to wake
up. Life is grand. The rain tells me it's going to be a good day and I
vision flowers trying to get out of the ground.

I bought myself a prize yesterday- Watercolor pencils. This is something
new for me as I've always used the standard brush and paints. I can't
wait to see the effects I can get. It's hard to break away from what I'm
used to, but I'm looking forward to this adventure.

Wishing you an adventure today.

Pop-Up Books made to order by the Artist

I like the idea of saving some of the jobs that are flying out of the USA.

With the many inquiries received about my Pop-Ups, I'm prompted to make made to order Pop-Up Books.
I love it.  The idea of a project that will have on the back cover- Made and created 100% in the USA.

It's fun to dream about growing a business that will have a team of people who love to create and make Pop-Up Books.

I'd read that most of the Pop-Up Books are cut, folded, fabricated in other countries as there isn't any place in the United States that does that...at a reasonable cost.

Wish me luck.

Smile a while,
Petrina

Texaco Oil Pump Antique Business Card Sculpture

The frosted glass dome with the Texaco Star logo was the best part of designing this Pop-Up Sculpture.  There wasn't enough room in the glass dome to add the Pop-Up Chevy and Gas Station.  I wanted to have liquid inside the tube from the pump to the car~ so when you moved the glass dome, the liquid would slosh around...

What a gas that was!  If you've got a better pun, I'd love to hear it~  email: pkc@PetrinaCase.com

Sky Diver

The Sky Diver was a really neat~ interesting project.  I ended up weeding out many more items I designed to put under the glass dome like the 2nd Airplane, the circle of 5 other Sky Divers in flight, and more clouds.  The dome would have had to be about 4 times larger- or make the figures smaller, neither was a good option.

I'm working on getting prompted air into the dome ~ actually have the sky diver "touch down" while playing "rocket Man" from Elton John.   Nope...that's way too much but the kid in me likes to think about it.

I ended up making this fun Pop-Up design  6-3/4" H x 5-3/4" DIA.  What do you think?  Do you like the Sky Diver about to touch down...or the one in free fall at about 2 o'clock?

I'm liking the Airplane~on top of the clouds the best , right about now- that's probably all the pain meds working on the tooth I had pulled 2 days ago.

Wow, my face sure is swollen.  Anyone have tips to get the swelling down...besides ice?  I really want to strap the ice pack to my face as it's difficult to design with one hand free and the other frozen.

I took a video of the Sky Diver.  Worked out pretty good as I had Elton John's Rocket Man playing in the background.   ~And I think it's gonna be a long time,  touch down brings me~etc.

Need to get my YouTube version in the Journal~ If my head doesn't fall off first from all the Rx.

Happy Adventure to you, better yet Happy Trails as Roy Rogers would say.

Dog Pop-Up Card

The Dog card is finally done.  I got to scratch 2 things off my list.  There's 3 pages of things I want to do but they are small pages.  I saw a Robin this morning and added that to my list of Pop-ups I want to make.

Finished the Lotus blossom Business card Sculpture.  Would have liked more contrast but then I would have had to alter the business cards too much.  I added a bit of glitter to the center bloom and the nails on the Pop-up hands.

No time to deliver it today, but it isn't due until next week.  It looks better without the dome, I think.  Which do you like better?

The Lotus Pop-Up card turned out the best.  I'm really pleased.

The sun is out-- a good time to grab the camera to catch that cute, chirpy Robin.

I've never seen a real Lotus, just tons of photos.  Someday I'd like to visit a place that has these beautiful flowers.

Wishing you journeys to places you want to be.

Law Scale of Justice

Determined to call this -Law Scales of Justice.  It's one scale so I guess I can leave off the plural.

This was a lot of fun to make.  The biggest challenge was getting each side to balance ok.

Kind of like life...keeping things in balance.  I hope that doesn't count for chocolate!

Sweets for the sweet!

Gift Certificate with no expire date.

Finished the Gift Certificate.  I saw one that said: "No expire date.", and thought that's a great idea for me to do one:

.
So here's a Gift Certificate just for you-- for 25 smiles, no expiry date.
It strikes me as a funny concept to count how many times we smile in one day.

Dogs need a tail so they don't fall over.

Finished the dog for the Pop-Up card-- in such a hurry the first one done didn't have a tail.  What do we need a tail on things for, anyway?  I think it's so they don't fall over and so you know they're glad to see you...besides the jumping for joy part.
.
People don't really jump for joy...they hop.  Children are the only ones who know how to properly jump for joy.
Wishing you a real jump for joy.

Inspirational Well

"A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for."
~William Shedd

Along the way we all find inspirational sayings that help or inspire us.  I added the inspirational well to my web site thinking I'd do a watercolor of a well to start the page.  That led to thinking about an Artesian Well--then an Ink Well.  I liked my initial work up of the Well better, as it has more character, than the final version which is more symmetrical.

.
Which do you  like better?
Have a sunny day!

Smile awhile,
Petrina
