Rochester Children's Book Festival Nov 8, 2008 Rochester, NY.

Today, I went to the Rochester Children's Book Festival in Rochester, NY from 10 am to 4pm.
and had too much fun, got to meet a lot of friendly, informative folks, Writers and Illustrators.

I found it interesting that upon meeting someone new, they would introduce themself by name and then quickly say "Unpublished".

I got to meet more than 40 authors and illustrators from around New York and elsewhere, including local favorites like:
Linda Sue Park, Vivian Vande Velde, Robin Pulver, Mary Jane Auch and Ellen Stoll Walsh, returning favorites like James Howe, Paul Zelinsky, and Michelle Knudsen, and first-timers Bruce Coville and Tamora Pierce.

I went to three presentations that were wonderful- just over the top.

Click on any image to see larger-

Dr. Fred Bortz's, Physicist- presentation -The Truth About Space Aliens (Astrobiology) his book.  He made it fun and understandable as most of the audience was children.

.
aniel J. Mahaney's presentation- How a Picture Book gets Published

Paul O. Zelinsky, Caldecott winner & creator of The Wheels on the Bus, did a presentation "Toy Dance Party" an interactive illustrative one...and I invested in 2 of his books.  Paul read from his book and illustrated at the same time- just wonderful!
He autographed both books in his wonderful writing style...carefully stylizing every single letter...he is amazing.  Check out his web site where he has a demonstrative video.  http://www.paulozelinsky.com/

I gave each presenter one of my recent Pop-Up cards as a thank you.  They sure were appreciative:

A sea of people and tons of well behaved children- amazing.

Advertiser tables were set up in 2 rooms surrounding the Authors/llustrators and I got to chat with 2 "actors" pumping everyone up for "Build the Red Army".
I came home with a free Star Wars poster that had a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" hologram as a small section of the poster.

I wanted to meet with (Rochester Area Children's Writers & Illustrators)
A super network, but ran out of time.  Cannot wait to find out more as they are here locally.  I got to meet one of their friendly members.

Life is good..

Have a good day- I wish everyone a day like I had today...more fun than I could have imagined,
Petrina

Pop-Up Globe and Star

I did not use a flash for the photo of the envelope.  The explanation for the cross showing up on the backdrop is... it must have come from the ceiling light reflecting off the gold foil on the envelope and on to the backdrop.  My religious mind reminds me that God is with me all the time.
